German-Russian artist Kissina, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, developed the practice of Performance Photography in the 1990s, resulting in such noted art events as Divine Hunt, where sheep were herded through Frankfurts Museum for Modern Art; more recently, as founder of the Dead Artists Society, Kissina has conducted sťances to make contact with Marcel Duchamp, Malevich and others. This book presents a simpler, starker version of Kissinas talents; photographs of pedestrians with their shadow foremost, taken from her balcony in Berlin, in summer and between 4:30 and 6:00pm. The result is a fantasy landscape of distortions, configurations, and human and inhuman figures, sometimes funny, always fascinating.
