While staying at the Austrian embassy in Wash D.C., I heard a rumor going around that in case of a terrorist attack, we were to don out gas masks and ride out of town on bicycles in single file. I thought ‘I really have to paint this’ and so got some paints and painted my very first piece which would later turn into this collection.

About the Author:

Jaret Wendell Miles (Max Laser) was born in Northern California in the early 1950s. He was fortunate enough to have two uncles who made a living as musicians in the then lucrative country and western genre of the music business. After high school he spent two years playing war games in the US Army Airborne unit in Germany. He often had to scan his wallet for little pieces of paper to throw on the meagre fire to keep from freezing. From the 1970s onwards Max joined several bands, became front man while also playing some back up rhythm guitar. Also his original compositions began being performed. During this same very creative period Max began writing a futuristic science fiction novel entitled Streetfighter. While contemplating Streetfighter Max decided to adopt the main character’s persona on stage and legally changed his name to Max Laser. At the same time he worked mostly dead-end jobs like cemetery worker, gardener or countless temp agency assignments while in pursuit of a music recording contract. However, mondo women and drinking considerably sidetracked his music career. Not content with music as his only creative outlet Max also recently began creating small clay and jewelry monsters (sculptures) and eventually started painting. In a little over four years he has compiled an impressive portfolio of over 200 paintings. In 2009 Max’s works were displayed at a local Los Angeles exhibition and his works were critically acclaimed for their humorous portrayal and symbolism. For the last 15 years he has traveled in over 25 countries, living for most of this time in Syria, Indonesia and now India. In addition to his book, Max and the “Max Laser Band” will be releasing their second album entitled Beautiful Heartbreaker. For more info take a look at www.MaxLaserBand.com !
