The Yakut Olonkho is a genre of an early archaic epos. This monograph studies the plots of Olonkho about the defenders of the Sakha tribe. Emel'ianov traces the evolution of these plots and the Yakut epic genre in general. Two trends are discovered: a decrease of mythological and fairytale components and an increase of heroic and historical components in oral epics. N. Emel'ianov was one of the compilers of the Yakut heroic epos: Moguchii Er Sogotokh in the series Pamiatniki Fol'klora Narodov Sibiri i Dal'nego Vostoka and the author of several books on the subject.
