Leonid Lazarev: Selected Works

9785812100070: Leonid Lazarev: Selected Works

The album-book contains 120 color and black-and-white photographs spanning 50 years of creative work by Leonid Lazarev, from 1956 to 2006. The photographs are accompanied by a commentary in English and Russian.

The album is based on Leonid Lazarev's images made at different periods of his life and creative activity in the course of the last half a century. There are psychological portraits of his contemporaries, travel sketches made during numerous visits to far away places of the former USSR, lyrical landscapes, poster-formalist compositions in search for new expressive means, and snapshots of purely personal nature - the memories of his childhood and youth, portraits of family and friends.

The album provides a complementary wide field of view on philosophical and aesthetic aspirations of the photo-artist, his creative palette of expressive means, attitude towards life, love, his country, his place, and his role as a creative person in society.

The album features many famous people of the Soviet and post-Soviet times, including Yuri Gagarin, Gherman Titov, Mstislav Rostropovich, Dmitri Shostakovich, Samuel Marshak, Andrei Voznesensky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Bulat Okudzhava, Leonid Utesov, Igor Moiseev, Ivan Kozhedub, Maya Plisetskaya, Oleg Popov, Galina Ulanova, Thor Heyerdahl, Arkady Raikin, Konstantin Simonov, Grigory Chukhrai, and many others. Still, the album is not only about famous people. It also spotlights so-called "ordinary" people - the workers, peasants, soldiers, and passers-by, whose faces reflect the epoch, embody the history of the times and of the country.

The photographs in the album are accompanied by the author's commentaries, thoughts and confidences.

The book will serve as an excellent gift for both photo enthusiasts and professionals. It will enhance any collection related to the portrayed Period or Place.
