This lavishly produced monograph pay homage to the work and influence of the expressive sculptor, influential educator and Guggenheim Fellow Helen Escobedo, who died in 2009. Escobedo's half century career explored the intimate connection that art can forge between the man made and natural environments. She developed a style that used natural materials, like branches and tree trunks, alongside discarded mass produced items, like tires and umbrellas, and engaged members of the community in the building process. Compiled by Escobedo's longtime assistants Irela Gonzaga and Amalia Benavides with critical texts by Rita Eder, Graciela Schmilchuk, Jose Emilio Pacheco, Nestor Garcia Canclini, Angelica Abelleyra, Francisco Reyes Palma and Jorge Alberto Manrique.
