An excellent overview of air power is presented in this six-tape collection from Discovery Channel. Relying on both archival footage and new footage that is often spectacularly shot, the videos cover war birds from the Stukas that launched the German blitzkrieg to the F-117 stealth fighters that flew with impunity over downtown Baghdad during the Gulf War. Besides the extensive use of film shot during actual combat operations, the videos also feature a number of interviews with veterans of aerial combat who provide insights that only someone who has been in the cockpit during a dogfight or a bombing run could offer. Each individual tape is professionally produced, and the particular topics covered demonstrate thoughtful organization: air combat in the Pacific during World War II, the air campaigns over Europe, the Vietnam air war, the air campaign waged in the Gulf War, the innovative German fighters of World War II, and the development and eventual deployment of the F-117 stealth fighter. This is an excellent boxed set, with all the components being both highly informative and thoroughly entertaining. --Robert J. McNamara
