The book is a another major novel written by Haruki Murakami and published shortly afterForest in Norway. The content is closely a follow-up on Adventure in Tracking Sheep. The protagonist I is the same as in Adventure in Tracking Sheep. The story has two threads. First one is I and alumnus, film star getting to know two call girls. Out of psychological distortion, kills them and commits suicide by throwing himself into the sea. The other thread is I getting to know a lonely girl Snow, her photographer mother Rain and Rains boyfriend Dick. But kind-hearted Dick is killed in a car accident. I spend sometime in horror in the shadow of death. In the end I fall in love with a hotel attendant and acquire a sense of security. The novel reveals the distortion done to human psychology by the irrationality in capitalistic society and human beings spiritual solitude and lifes fragility in this type of society. The style uses a mixture of reality and fancy with a high level of artistry.
