In Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), other ethnic groups cast greedy eyes on the land of Song, which leads to a situation with Han and non-Han nationalities opposing each other. Qiao Feng, leader of the Beggars Association, is accused as the descendant of Qidan by Kang Min for revenging against Qiao Fengs refusal of her love. Distained and rejected, Qiao Feng decides to find the truth about his birth, during which he makes good friends with Duan Yu, prince of Dali, and a monk named Xu Zhu. During his investigation, Qiao Feng, framed up by evil people again and again, suffers a grievous wrong with no hope of vengeance and even mistakenly kills his beloved girl A Zhu. Later, while seeking doctors to treat A Zi, sister of A Zhu, he arrives at the land of Liao Regime and becomes a lord there thus developing a worse relationship with Central Plains. Duan Yu, frank and open-minded, loses his heart to Wang Yuyan at first sight. However, Wang only loves her cousin Murong Fu, which entangles the three of them in the pangs of love. Xu Zhu, born of a honest and kindly position, acquires peerless Kongfu skills with the guidance of talented masters, and is finally elected as the son-in-law of Emperor of Western Xia Regime.
