Synopsis

As a pre-requisite to understand the health care needs of the common man and to study them at their own place to make the research studies meaningful and purposeful, a Survey and Surveillance Programme with emphasis on research on rural problems was launched. The Survey and Surveillance Programme is in other words a method aimed at health care practice research to investigate aspects related to health status, identification of causes for imbalance in health levels and their relations to socio-economic circumstances and standard of living and environment. While achieving optimal advantage for the delivery of health care and other health services, the study is expected to reveal the preventive measures for endemic conditions and therapeutic measures from locally available resources.
