He played a crucial role in evangelizing Odia-speaking regions and trained Odia evangelists. Sutton's missionary efforts extended to Telugu-speaking areas but ultimately focused on Odisha. He visited England and the United States, inspiring missionary work in India. Sutton was a gifted translator and hymn composer, contributing significantly to Odia literature and religious hymnody. He received an honorary D.D. degree from Waterville College, USA.
