Thoughtful Wanderings: Compositions by Douglas Hill

9788158510602: Thoughtful Wanderings: Compositions by Douglas Hill

This two-CD set amply demonstrates composer Douglas Hill’s eclectic work from the late 1970s to 2000, including classical and jazz pieces for solo horn, horn and piano duet, brass ensembles, and voice with horn and full orchestra. Themes of nature are lyrically expressed in such works as ‘Homage to Thoreau’, ‘A Place for Hawks’ (inspired by Wisconsin writer August Derleth), ‘Thoughtful Wanderings’ (inspired by Native American flutes and drums), and ‘To the Winter Sun’, a winter solstice piece featuring the alphorn. The pieces are performed by Hill himself and by alumni, faculty, students, and staff of the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Music.
