The existence of a Dalit woman is marked and marred by twin oppressive structures caste and patriarchy, both of which have supplanted to her exploitation in our society. If caste makes her cringe and supplicate, patriarchy makes her accept violence in her home as natural and given. While male Dalit intelligentsia has belatedly realized the futility of social egalitarianism without coequality at domestic front, Dalit women have never been totally elided from social sphere unlike their upper caste counterparts. Their subjugation has been more social and personal than ideological, making them victims of brutalities and bestialities of a skewed social/familial structure.
