About the Author:

Prof Kalpana Markandey did her doctorate from Osmania University, Hyderabad and has been teaching at the Geography Department of the same University for the past three decades. She has been the Head of the Department and Chairperson Boad of Studies of this Department with a credit of starting M.Sc. Geoinformatics at Osmania University. She has contribution of publishing nine books and around 35 research papers having successfully completed ten research projects. She is also member of numerous professional bodies. Prof Geetha Reddy Anant (also Geeta Reddy Anant & J Geeta Reddy) is Director, Centre for Indian Ocean Studies Osmania University, Hyderabad having worked on issues of urban growth and life, informal economy, energy consumption and impacts etc. She is the author of Urbanisation and Primate City Growth in the Indian Ocean countries-1995, Planning and Regional Development-Towards Identification of Economic Potential-1996 as well as editor of Problems of Hunger and Food Security in the Indian Ocean Region-2000 and Multilayered Cities and Urban System-2009. She has also published over one hundred articles and research papers.
