"This book arises out of the conviction that fabric, a necessary and irreplaceable material for our survival, is the essential element of clothes: this simple, ductile raw material conditions the receiving public as well as taste, style, price, aesthetics, ergonomics, functionality and durability. Experts know that fabric is 'what makes the difference', granting garments an identity which accompanies them throughout their existence. It is therefore essential to discover the secrets of the suggestive and dazzling universe of fabrics, replete with references observable from different perspectives. The art of tailoring, a highly regarded professional specialty, increasingly attracts new talent devoted to producing capsule collections and highly innovative limited-edition series while at the same time allowing young fashion and textile design students to develop their inventiveness and creativity. Within the framework of fashion it is important to consider what fabric, the material that accompanies the fashion product in all its stages, contributes at the aesthetic, psychological, industrial production and commercial levels. From the creative concept to the production cycle culminating in shop windows, fabric requires broad attention, one ranging from the internal adjustment of garments to the sustainable ecological balance of the planet." From the foreword by Stefanella Sposito.
