Synopsis

Besides outlining the nature of religion, Lindbeck also offers a solution to historical doctrinal conflicts among the different Christian communities, the relationship between Christianity and other religions, and the nature and task of theology itself.
The Nature of Doctrine is one of the most influential works of academic theology of the last fifty years. Originally, published in 1984, this book describes the fundamental principles of a post-liberal focus of theology, emphasizing a cultural-linguistic perspective about religion and a regulative theory of doctrine.

About the Author
George A. Lindbeck es el profesor emérito Pitkin de Teología histórica a la Universidad de Yale en New Haven, Connecticut. Es autor de varios libros, incluyendo The Church in a Postliberal Age. Lindbeck nació en 1923 a padres misioneros americanos. Por los primeros diecisiete años de su vida estaba enfermo con frecuencia y se encontraba aislado del mundo que lo rodeaba. Asistió Gustavus Adolphus College y se graduó en 1943 con su bachillerato. Siguió sus estudios en Yale donde recibió su BD en 1946. Después, pasó un año al Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies y entonces dos años a l’École Practique des Haute Études. Recibí su PhD de Yale in 1955 concentrando en los estudios medievales, dando su disertación sobre el teólogo franciscano Duns Scotus.
