About the Author
Camilo José Cela nació en 1916 en Iria Flavia (La Coruña). Desde 1957 es académico de la Lengua. Fruto de sus andanzas por los caminos de España son sus libros Viaje a la Alcarria y Judíos, moros y cristianos. En 1942 se situó en primera línea de la narrativa española con La familia de Pascual Duarte, libro al que siguieron, entre otros, Pabellón de reposo, El Gallego y su cuadrilla, La colmena, Mrs. Caldwell habla con su hijo, Nuevo retablo de Don Cristobita, Las compañías convenientes y otros fingimientos y cegueras, Oficio de tinieblas 5 , Mazurca para dos muertos... En enero de 1980 es investido doctor honoris causa por la Universidad Compostelana. Asimismo, le es concedida la Gran Cruz de la Orden de Isabel La Católica. En 1982 se estrena en Madrid la película La colmena, dirigida por Mario Camus y con guión de José Luis Dibildos. Cela participa activamente en el filme, mediante la interpretación de uno de los personajes; Matías Martí, el inventor de palabras. En 1994 gana el Premio Planeta con La cruz de San Andrés. En 1987 recibió el Premio Príncipe de Asturias, en 1989 se le concede el Premio Nobel y el Premio Cervantes en 1995. Fallece en Madrid en enero del 2002.
