With its emphasis on the resurgence of themes from the past, the book shares the ideals of Frederick Stibbert, collector and patron of arts, in the creation of his museum. The catalogue brings together a rich and varied collection of Florentine maiolica from the second half of the nineteenth century, from the Doccia manufactory and that of Cantagalli. It includes small pieces interesting from the point of view of technique, and large monumental works also of great beauty. Many are unpublished and come from private collections, whilst others have been lent by illustrious institutions overseas.
