Book Description Roma : "Erma" di Bretschneider, 1989. Soft cover. Condition: New. 280 pages : illustrations ; 24 cm. in Italian. One of the most important sections of the Vatican Etruscan collection gathers an astonishing variety of votive and decorative instruments, mainly dedicated to instruments for illumination: candelabra and lamp holders, as well as thymiateria, incense boats of all shapes and sorts. The collected specimen, coming from excavations of the 19th century, have undergone extensive archaeological investigations. This scientific catalogue, edited in Italian only, is divided in two sections: the first is dedicated to materials, the second divides the objects according to type and chronology. Finds are displayed by photographs and drawings, illustrated by accurate technical charts, rich in information, including a detailed analysis of the represented subject, a comparison with similar findings and data about the state of conservation and recovery interventions. The results derived from multiple studies also permitted to establish more precisely the provenance and the dating of the objects. Three appendixes close the volume, reporting a list of the mentioned candelabra and thymiateria, a wide bibliography and a profound study by Maurizio Sannibale, curator of the Department of Etruscan-Italic Antiquities and of the Gregorian Etruscan Museum.
