Retrospective collection of photographs. Limited Edition of 1000 copies. Published on the occasion of the landmark exhibition at the Galleria Civica di Modena, Palazzo Santa Margherita from April 5 through June 29, 2003. The exhibition travelled on to the Fondazione Italiana Fotografica in Turin, from October 29, 2003 through January 11, 2004. The third exhibition in an ongoing Series, which began with one on Ralph Eugene Meatyard followed by another on Minor White, Caponigro's mentor. In his brief but illuminating Introduction, Guadagnini candidly points out that all three American Masters are virtually unknown in Italy even though the host country (and Europe in general) would be very hard-pressed to find photographic masters of comparable genius and achievement. He bewails the inferior quality of contemporary, trend-driven European art photography in comparison with the work of these postwar American photographers. The anthology presents Paul Caponigro's finest and most representative images, culled from various exhibitions, projects and publications. Caponigro's career now spans more than forty years and boasts a tremendous body of work: Landscapes, landmarks (notably the unsurpassable megaliths), still lifes, formal studies, photographs of specific places throughout the United States, Ireland, Canada, and in an amazing suite, Japan, among many other places. Includes work which has not appeared in any other publication, selected and put together with the photographer's full cooperation. Being of Italian descent, Caponigro speaks of the renewed appreciation of his art in Italy as an inspiring source of genuine satisfaction and pure joy. A gem of a book. 134 tritones.
