Kang's photograph trilogy of Korean history is collected in this single volume under the title of Vintage Landscapes. Gyeongju Namsan (1987) interprets the stone Buddhas scattered over Gyeongju's Namsan as the origins of Korea's culture of sculptural art. Samgukyusa Read though Photos (1999) follows the traces of ancient mythologies remaining in Gyeongju. The Road to the Neung (2000) captures the stories of the huge neungs (royal tombs). Kang explains that the pictures are the results of his journey to find the lost fingerprints of our forgotten ancestors. Vintage Landscape contains 104 color pictures of Silla's neungs, scenes from the SamgukYusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms), and the holy ground of Buddhism on Gyeongju's Namsan. Media reviews and press release : "Kang's Vintage Landscapes invites us to enjoy the old, peaceful scenery of Gyeongju." _Heraldbiz, April 12, 2011 "Kang's photography trilogy of Korean history" _Yonhap News, April 15, 2011 "With this book, he has succeeded in grasping the sentiment shared by all Koreans." _The Kyunghyang Shinmun, May 4, 2011 Kang Woon-gu Kang Woongu(1941-) was working for the Chosun Ilbo and Dong-a Ilbo newspapers as a photographer, but was dismissed in 1975 after participating in freedom of speech demonstrations. Kang is highly regarded as a photojournalist who recorded the unknown side of Korea of 1960s, which was disappearing because of a development-oriented and industrialized system. The photographer is well-known for his very Korean viewpoint, and it displayed well in his photographs. Among his works, there are Gyeongju Namsan (1987), Luck or Destiny (1994), and The Images of Three Villages (2001).
