Hardcover. Condition: Good. In 1622, Scott assumed the role of preacher for the English garrison stationed in Utrecht. During his tenure, he produced numerous pamphlets denouncing Roman Catholicism, many of which were disseminated in England. On 18 June 1626 he was murdered by an English soldier named John Lambert as he exited a church. The assassin underwent torture but maintained that he was not influenced by Catholic priests or Jesuits. Exhibiting signs of insanity and hallucinations, he was ultimately sentenced to death, with his right hand severed prior to execution. Approximately 57 pages. Minimal wear to the pages or the binding. Original red cloth, with contrasting gilt lettering piece to the spine and upper board.
