Book Description Condition: Sehr gut. City Noise, City Noise. Ca. 200 S., sehr zahlr. Abb. Gutes Ex. - States of Humanity (SOH) is a comprehensive work of art to which every participant makes a subjective contribution. SOH can be regarded as a project of an interactive nature and a broad social scope, using diverse media Within contemporary society, boundaries are becoming less and less distinct and standards are changing at a fast rate as a result of the rapid exchange of information and the constant production of new media for communication. It is in the metropolis where these kind of changes in the social realm appear first and most explicitly, as I see it, and that is the reason why SOH focuses on metropolitan life. The key words for SOH are information and communication, interaction and reaction because more and more these seem, to be the keywords of urban life. As a point of departure, I have carried out six sculptures based on urban conditions. They refer to human themes, such as power, religion, violence, individualism, reflection, spirituality, sexuality and perception. I then showed these sculptures to others, asking them to respond from their personal points of view and respective places within society and thereby sketch their views of life in a big city. Their reactions have, in turn, been used by me as a source of inspiration for digital image collages which are compiled from television stills, pictures from magazines and books and are subsequently translated into film and photographic works. A distinguishing feature of SOH is that each part constitutes the start of a next part of the project, a collage-like way of working not unlike the sampling of contemporary DJ's and VJ's. The various facets of SOH (artworks, texts, book, films, performances) come about as a result of each other, but also coexist independently in harmony or discord - seeming to have no coherence whatsoever or, conversely, the greatest affinity - as is life in a metropolis.
