This book is about buildings and their surroundings, what they mean for those who use them, the intended atmosphere they create, and what remains of that today. It features works by Dutch architect and urbanist Kees Rijnboutt, who has been active since 1964 until today, combining new colour photographs with older black-and-white images. Over the years, some buildings were altered, while others seem barely changed. In considering Rijnboutt s oeuvre, parallels can be drawn with the history of architecture in the Netherlands over the last 50 years. As the responsibility and meaning of architecture has adapted to a changing society, so, too, is it reflected in the work of Rijnboutt.
