Book is in French with some parts in English and German. This exhibition has been made possible by the generosity of Nicole Hambourg and her plan to donate to the Court of Justice the preparatory drawings for the six panels commissioned in 1971 from the painter Andre Hambourg to adorn the main courtroom (grande salle d'audience) of the Palais, the inauguration of which took place on 9 January 1973. The event is notable in more than one respect. It is significant first for all those who are interested in the work of Andre Hambourg. Through a presentation with explanatory notes of more than a hundred drawings, Annie Madet-Vache, deputy curator at the musee national de la Marine (Paris), here magisterially describes the artist's path to the creation of those six panels, which are unique in his work because of their size and the use of acrylic paint. But the exhibition also arrive at a significant time for the Court of Justice, at the very moment when it is taking possession of the new Palais where the two triptychs have now been placed on the topmost level of the salle des Pas perdus of the original Palais, brilliantly redesigned by the architect Dominique Perrault.
