Based on a survey of 600 heads of Human Resources at the world's largest employers in 20 countries. The Corporate Gender Gap Report 2010 looks at the magnitude and scope of gender based diaparities, as well as barriers to the advancement of women in corporate leadership, and the degree to which various gender inclusion practices are employed in different countries. On the overall percentage of women corporate employees, India at 23% comes out not only behind the U.S at 52%, but also behind Brazil at 35%. At the senior management level, India shows only 9% women to Brazil's 16% and the U.S.A.'s 28%.
Women, who were working for the lower paid job for their survival, now are getting better degrees and opting for functional jobs. Women are moving into technical, finance, marketing, defense and other job functions. Many middle class families have realized the potential of their females and preparing them to compete on the market so that they can contribute significantly to the family income. In the past ten years, there has been an upsurge of corporate interest in diversity and gender-inclusion initiatives. Corporation want to take advantage of new female talent who are ready to take challenging work. Private industries have realized that was a myth not to trust female for middle to top management jobs. The proportion of women in the workforce in 1981 was 19.7 percent and it rose to 22.7 percent in 1991, further rising to 25.7 percent in 2001. During 2001, in the Indian IT Industry, women account for close to 30 percent of the total workforce and this is 45 percent in 2011.
India's educated professional women are a significant asset that should no longer be undervalued and under-utilized. In India, socio-economic changes have played key roles in changing the career patterns and professional roles of women. The government emphasized the need to empower and provide training programmes to women to enable them to enter into the corporate and increase the GDP of out country. Today India is power in the global economy because of the talented educated Indian women. From past so many decades our society is dominated by male. From last three decades, the change in the socio cultural environment has opened the gateway for women to enter and lead in the managerial roles in the corporate India. Women have started recognizing their innate talents and skills and working to achieve the excellence in those areas. In the existing set-up where the primary responsibility of women is to maintain the household activities, women are overburdened and that generate a throw into turmoil in their work and life roles. Thus women are finding intricacy in the competing demands and responsibilities of work and family roles. Balancing the work and non work life of women professionals is must for corporate sustainable development.
This study aims to understand the important factors which affect the work Life Balance of women professionals. Work life balance boosts efficiency and thus, the productivity of an employee increases. The ultimate performances of any organization depends on the performance of its employees, which in turn leads to sustainable development in the odd hours. Work-life balance has become the foremost issue in the workplace especially in a society packed full with differing responsibilities and commitment. Global fierce competition, renewed interest in personal lives, aging work force are the prime factors because of which companies are deliberately framing policies to maintain equilibrium in personal and professional lives.
