An ambitious work that explores a region and people who have shaped the subcontinent for over five millennia.
This is the land where the great war of right versus wrong was fought, and from which Lord Krishna’s wisdom―the universal truth―spread across the world. It is also the cradle of the ancient Indus–Saraswati civilization, where the sacred river Saraswati, celebrated in the Rig Veda, once flowed across the plains in its full might.
Over centuries, kings and emperors used this land to expand and consolidate their empires. The East India Company, and later the British Crown, maneuvered here as they managed their colonial interests. The much-ridiculed political phrase “Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram” originated here, and the region produced many stalwarts of the Indian independence movement. It has also been a hub of regional and national political maneuvering, shaping the course of modern Indian politics.
In his debut book, Land of the Gods: The Story of Haryana, Arjun Singh Kadian takes readers on a fascinating journey through Haryana, offering fresh insights and compelling historical detail.
