Pierre Joseph Redoute (1759-1840) was one of the most famous flower painters of all time. He was born in Belgium, but spent most of his life in Paris where he was well known as a court painter to Marie Antoinette. His use of the color stipple technique in his work especially on roses and lilies lead to his nickname of ""The Raphael of Flowers"".
