Rhidauna was my first novel, an epic adventure story for both Y.A. (Dutch rating 15+) and Adults.
I started on the original Dutch version in the summer of 2009, and wrote it and the second volume, Zihaen, more or less in one sitting.
For the Dutch market, a novel of over 250.000 words was far too long, so on the advice of W.J. Maryson, (a well-known Dutch fantasy writer who alas died far too soon in 2011) I split the manuscript in two parts.
Then I went looking for a publisher. The first one, a major Dutch imprint, was interested, but they went into a reorganization and it came to nought.
I then offered my books to a genre publisher, specialized in fantasy and sf, Zilverspoor, in Maastricht.
They accepted the first three books of the Rhidauna series, The Shadow of the Revenaunt, and published the first book in 2012.
The English version appeared under the Red Rune Books label in 2013, with a cover illustration made by the well-known Dutch artist Jos Weijmer.
