About the Author
Laura Esquivel nacio en Mexico en 1950. Antes de dedicarse a la literatura, trabajo en la docencia, fundo un taller de teatro y literatura infantil, y trabajo como guionista de cine. Su primera novela, Como agua para chocolate (1989), obtuvo un exito sin precedentes. Traducida a treinta y cinco idiomas, permanecio mas de un ano en las listas de best sellers del New York Times. La adaptacion cinematografica, con guion de la propia autora, tambien incremento su reconocimiento internacional. Este guion le valio en 1992 los premios Ariel y Silver Hugo (en el 28º Chicago International Film) y en 1993 el premio Houston International Film Festival. En 1992 fue nombrada Mujer del Ano. En 1994 fue galardonada con el prestigioso American Booksellers Book of the Year, siendo el primer escritor extranjero que ha recibido este premio. Laura Esquivel es una autora inquieta que busca nuevos y originales caminos en sus obras, entre las que tambien caben destacar La ley del amor, primera novela multimedia de la historia (1996), intimas suculencias. Tratado filosofico de cocina (1999) y El libro de las emociones (2000), su primera incursion en el ensayo, y sus novelas Tan veloz como el deseo (2001) y Malinche (2006).
