This profession - management consultancy (hereinafter referred to as consultancy) - can look back upon nearly hundred years of history. As an independent venture, it was born in the US in the 1910's and 1920's. Today we can hardly find an area of business life, which cannot be connected to some kind of consultancy business. The market of consultancy is subject to an ever-increasing interest, both among consultants and broader professional public. Hunger for information is tended mainly towards the size of the consultancy market, about which we have contradicting pieces of information, as different analysts describe differently the activities belonging under the umbrella of management consultancy. The present study consists of seven major parts. We are going to survey the fundamental conceptions of consultancy and present the most important characteristics of development of consultancy in the past as regards to the developed world and Eastern and Central Europe. In the part 6 of the study we look for an answer for how the structure of this branch of the industry will transform in the near and far future, what kind of new trends can be forecasted. As a special virtue of the study we need to highlight that it makes an attempt to combine theoretical and practitioner-oriented literature. The appendices of the book provide useful information on management consultancy training and education and FEACO as well.
