In 1955, at age 11, Baruch was sent to study in Israel. Returning to Ethiopia at 19, he worked as an agro-mechanic and later bought a farm, on which he and his family prospered...until the Revolution in 1974, when life became unbearable. Baruch was determined to get his people out of Ethiopia and into Israel. His harrowing journey to the Promised Land took three years of travel - by land, sea and air. Baruch s struggles to save his people ran into many obstacles, not the least of which was racial prejudice. Here is the story of a man and a people who have lived their ideals.

About the Author:
Baruch Tegegne was born in 1944 in Wozaba, Ethiopia, a remote Jewish hillside village. He has worked his entire life to help bring his people to the Land of Israel, which they cherished from afar for 2000 years. He now lives in Montreal, Canada. Phyllis Schwartzman Pinchuk was born in 1929 in Montreal and graduated from the Montreal Hebrew Teacher s Seminary. After marrying Abe Pinchuk, Phyllis stayed home to raise their family. She became active in the Home and School Association, helped build a library at her children s school and along with two others, began working to create Jewish educational materials to teach Jewish concepts and values to older students. They formed Limud Publications, a volunteer non-profit organization for heritage and Jewish programming. Phyllis has also served as Education Consultant to the Montreal Jewish Educational Council. Phyllis was introduced to Baruch Tegegne at a book club meeting where he spoke of his harrowing struggles to rescue his people. Incredulous at first, she verified his story and repeated that he must put his saga down in writing. Before long, he asked if she would do the writing for him. The process proved to be a wonderful, rewarding and enriching experience for her.
