The late Prof. Yehezkel Kaufmann (1889-1963) was born int he Ukraine and educated in yeshiva in Odessa, studied in Petrograd and received his Ph.D. from the University of Berne in 1918. He came to Palestine from Berlin in 1920, taught in the Reali School in Haifa before coming to Jerusalem. He was named Professor of Bible at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1949. Among Prof. Kaufmann's most important works are 'Golah VeNeichar' and the monumental eight volumes of 'The Religion of Israel.'
Moshe Greenberg (b. 1928, Philadelphia, PA) received his Ph.D. in 1954 from the University of Pennsylvania. He was the Israel Prize recipient in Bible, 1994. Holder of many awards and honorary degrees, Prof. Greenberg was named Hebrew University Prof. Emeritus in 1996.
