Synopsis

This is an easy-to-use instruction book with plenty of useful drawing tips, practical exercises and assignments to guide students who want to develop his or her skill in drawing and sketching. Over 300 illustrations and concise guidelines in the book teach basic skills such as handling pencils, drawing lines, shapes, creating dimension, developing values, and creating interesting composition. Assignments and exercises are designed to ensure beginners are able to master each principle of good drawing. In addition, two useful drawing tools are included in the book. The Color Value Finder is a newly invented tool to help students identify values when translating colors into grayscale. This is needed when a student creates a value drawing. The View Finder, a second tool, is used to capture interesting scenes to draw within a picture frame. This book also covers various subjects; like how to select good digital images and how to improve poor photographs using computer skills.

The book is divided into two parts: fundamentals and various subjects of drawing. The first part shows students the drawing basics, size and angle relationships, values, composition, and studio tips.
