Synopsis
El escritor mexicano recrea en esta novela el ambiente social de la Ciudad de México, desde la alta burguesía improvisada y la llamada "aristocracia" porfirista hasta el proletariado y aquellos que fluctúan entre una clase y otra. Es un testimonio de lo que a los ojos del autor se advierte a su alrededor; señala la sombra del egoísmo que desciende sobre quienes en un tiempo cifraron su destino en la redención de los humildes.

About the Author
Carlos Fuentes (Panamá, 1928) is considered the father of modern Latin American literature. Besides writing, he has held a number of diplomatic positions in the United States, Latin America and Europe.
