This is a complete maritime medical book, and it differs from the more traditional "Ship Captain's Medical Guide" in a number of significant ways. It would be most appropriate to call Dr. Zakaria's book 'the management of health at sea.' Working back from the comprehensive index and the nine pages of references, the author has provided a concise and readable text which covers diseases associated with the history of seafaring and the international regulatory framework embracing IMO, WHO, port health, etc., and transport problems such as rabies and quarantine, in addition to the main text on diagnosis, health, and remedies.
