Lubna Agha (1949-2012) was a renowned Pakistani-American artist. Her work drew inspiration from visual images of life around her - first as she was growing up in South Asia, and later as she traveled to and lived in other far-off places. Her art invoked a dialogue between the modern-abstract and traditional forms and practices of Islamic paintings. Her work has been exhibited in art museums and galleries in her homelands of Pakistan and the United States, as well as Britain, Japan, Jordan, and Switzerland. Her paintings are part of the permanent collections at the Asian Collection at Bradford Museum, UK, National Council of the Arts, Pakistan, and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Jordan. In this book authored by Dr. Marcella Sirhandi, a foremost scholar and critic of modern South Asian art, captures the journey of the artist`s creative mind and its evolution through various phases and influences of her life. Salima Hashmi, an acclaimed artist and daughter of renowned poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, poignantly described the book thus: "Lubna Agha`s reclamations take her into a kaleidoscope of vivid color, an inescapable zone of wonder". The book starts with the artist's childhood in Pakistan, where the artist was born, and traces her life during school years, the early development years and her rise through the art scene during the 1970's. Young, prolific, and talented, she took Pakistan`s art world by storm. Within only a few years, she won numerous laurels, held voluminous one person exhibitions, and participated in shows with distinguished senior artists. The book spans her career over 3 decades and takes the reader through monumental shifts in style - marked by courageous experimentation and innovation in new and challenging directions. The book includes several color plates of the artist's work.
