About the Author
Marlene Aguilar is a Filipino writer gifted with the passion to share her awareness and knowledge of the Filipino culture and heritage. She has been exposed to various cultures worldwide while in her search of the Filipino cultural legacy.
Born of Filipino parents, at the age of eighteen Marlene went to the USA to pursue her studies. She lived in the USA for forteen years but chose to go back to the Philippines in search of the warmth, love, and compassion which she grew up with. Gifted with the penchant for the beauty of man's handwork, Marlene indulged in readings and travels to see antiques and artworks by Filipinos in various parts of the world. Enchanted by the art pieces of of the Filipino masters, she decided to put up Jacoby Publishing House in 1996 and dedicated this company for the promotion of Filipino art worldwide.
Marlene sees the heart and soul of the Filipinos in their art. She sees the identity of the Filipino nation, in spite of the thousands of islands and thousands of dialects that results in thousands of diverse interests. She recognizes in these islands with diverse dialects and interests their unity through the language of the art. In her dedication on this book, Marlene writes, "I live for the day we Filipinos can look inside ourselves and find pride and dignity in the special qualities that make us so distinct and unique as a people."
