Book Description Office of Her Majesty's Private Secretary, Bangkok, Thailand, 1983. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good Minus. In English and Thai. Apparent first of this bilingual edition (NAP). I really don't know the history of the book. I do know that this is a very, very rare book that turns up for sale once in a blue moon. If you try to find it you'll encounter only a description of the book with a "Not Available" message. With this listing it is available again. I recall seeing a listing for it a few years ago for quite a few thousands of dollars. There is one auction sale (Swann Galleries) that took place in 2004. The book was purchased for $1,840.00. That book was enclosed in a Malachite green and gold paper-lined cardboard folding box with a magnetic snap and gold colored metal corners. My book is lacking the folding box and I've lowered the price to account for that. In pricing the book I've also taken into account the wear that you should be able to see in the photographs of the dust jacket. There are several tears off the bottom edge of the front and several more off the top edge of the front adjacent to the spine. You can also see the two areas of small loss at and around the top of the spine. The back of the dust jacket has small tears along with several peeling scuff marks and some others scuffs that lighten the black color of the surface. The dust jacket flaps do not contain any writing or prices. They are Not clipped. The dust jacket is already fitted with a protective cover. The book itself is solidly bound, square and tight. There aren't any issues with webbing showing or anything like that. You may be able to see that there is a little bit of scuffing near the edges of the covers, also on the edges, bottom and top. There are also scuffs at the bottom of the spine with one small spot with a tiny tear. The back cover has a few light scuffs and several tiny circular impressions or indentations near the top edge and one at the middle. All of the pages are quite clean. I didn't see any soiling. There aren't any markings. No one has written their name or anything else on any page in the book. No attachments of any kind. Not an ex-library book. The page edges are also unsoiled. The corners of the pages are in excellent condition. All of the many color plates, as well as the b&w or half-tone historical photograph reproductions, are in excellent condition. The first section of the book is an examination of the historical events surrounding the Thai Royal visits and interactions with the Russian nobility (King Chulalongkorn & Tsar Nicholas II) and their craftsmen during the late 19th and early 20th century. That's followed by a second section illustrating the Faberge pieces either commissioned by the Thai Royals, or the pieces presented to them by the Tsar. The book is 228 pages. If you have any unanswered questions, feel free to contact me. I've scanned 15 photos and would be happy to e-mail the remaining ones. Seller Inventory # 000855
