The Miele Guide does not accept free meals or advertising from any restaurants. Published by food lovers who know and love Asia and media professionals with several decades of Asia-regional experience, The Miele Guide ranks and profiles the best 320 restaurants across Asia's major cities, categorised by country, city and cuisine. In addition, The Miele Guide has published a numerical ranked list of Asia s Top 20 Restaurants. Each of these top restaurants is profiled in detail in the guide. (Visit our website at mieleguide.com for more information on our voting process.)
The 2008/2009 edition evaluates restaurants in 16 Asian countries Brunei, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Unlike most guides, there is no arbitrary, secretive selection procedures. The process of selecting Asia s finest restaurants is simple and transparent. A shortlist of restaurants has been created by 84 of the region s top restaurant critics and food writers. An online poll is then conducted via The Miele Guide website. Polling is open for 10 weeks and open to all members of the public. Voters are asked to vote for what they feel are the best 10 restaurants in Asia. They may choose restaurants from the shortlist or nominate unlisted restaurants. A Special Jury of more than 1,500 F&B professionals, well-known foodies, and international media also cast their votes online. Results from these two votes are then combined. The top 320 restaurants are then selected to be featured in the final published guide.
In order to determine Asia s Top 20 Restaurants, contributing editors in each Asian country and members of The Miele Guide team anonymously and secretly dined in each of these establishments. These tastings determined the final rankings of Asia s Top 20. (Visit our website at mieleguide.com for more information on our voting process.)
The Miele Guide is a first for Asia. It is the first truly independent standard through which Asia s restaurants have been evaluated. The Miele Guide is available in all major bookstores in Asia, on Amazon.com and is also for sale online on our website at mieleguide.com.
