Located at the midpoint of China's coastline, Shanghai stands at the estuary of the Yangtze River. As early as the 1930s and 1940s, Shanghai had already developed into China's largest industrial and commercial city and its economic hub. Shanghai Industries reviews and analyzes the evolution of various industries in Shanghai over the past century, and also their current status. It also looks ahead to the future and examines the numerous opportunities for local and international investors.

"This book traces the industrial evolution of Shanghai, explores the mechanisms for industrial restructuring and upgrading, describes the policy orientation of urban industries, and also looks ahead to the future.

One of the unique features of this book lies in its historical and global perspective in making an in-depth, rational analysis of detailed data. All these make it a must-read for all who want to understand the past and present of Shanghai's industries." --Zhou Zhenhua, Deputy Director, Development Research Center affiliated to the Shanghai Municipal Government and Deputy Director, Institute of Economics, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences
