As outstanding contemporary artist Xu Bing said, My modus operandi is to clutch tightly to life at any given moment! When the times became contemporary, I became a contemporary artist. When the times threw me out of the country, I became an international artist. Today's China is an extremely experimental place. We who live here should be extremely experimental artists. Xu Bing has long been active in Europe and North America, and is a contemporary Chinese artist highly recognized in the international art world. His numerous awards include a MacArthur Fellowship in 1999, in recognition of his "capacity to contribute importantly to society, particularly in printmaking and calligraphy." In 2004 he won the first Wales International Visual Art Prize, for art that "translate ideas and issues into visual forms that cross cultural boundaries." In 2014 he received the Art in Embassies Medal of Arts Award from the US Department of State. This book presents over 200 representative artworks of Xu Bing from 1975 to now, including early drawings and prints, documentation of performance arts, milestone works such as "Book from the Sky", "Book from the Ground", "Square Word Calligraphy Classroom", and etc. Source: Taipei Fine Arts Museum
