About the Author:
Gibran Khalil Gibran (1883-1931) fue un poeta, pintor, novelista y ensayista libanés. Nació en Becharré falleció en Nueva York. Se trasladó con su familia a los Estado Unidos a la edad de 11 años. La fugura de su abuelo materno es fundamental en la educación temprana de Gibran. Con el aprende de arte y conocimiento universal, que fueron base para la literatura y la pintura. Con el tiempo aprendió y cultivó con devoción el inglés, lengua que haría famosas sus novelas, aunque no olvidó el árabe, que perfeccionó tras su regreso al Líbano. Durante esa estadía, le nace la idea de escribir un libro, que con el tiempo sería su obra cumbre El Profeta. Se hizo famoso por sus pinturas, con exposiciones en Paris donde es eligiado por la crítica. En Francia publica Las alas rotas. En 1923 publicó su obra maestra, El Profeta, pieza en la que trabajó arduamente. Sus restos fueron transportados vía marítima a Beirut. Su tumba es lugar de peregrinación y un museo.
