Hatty is a tiger who doesn't like the taste of meat. He's a natural-born vegetarian and he's a great worry to his parents! But when he leaves home, Hatty is determined to make friends with the other animals who like to eat the things he does. The problem is, they think of themselves as his lunch - not his lunch partner! Hatty's good nature gets him nowhere until the animals get together and decide to test him. The tables are turned - and Hatty's hilarious confusion leads to an unexpected and happy result for them all.

About the Author:

Jonathan Ayre lives and works in Cyprus. He grew up, mainly in England, before going to sea at the age of sixteen in the Merchant Navy. He has worked as a screenwriter for several studios in Los Angeles, and it was an educational film about Dinosaurs that first took him into the world of children's films and books. He began illustrating about three years ago and 'The Tiger Who Wasn't!' was the result. The book is the first in a series of books about Hatty the vegetarian tiger, and the sequel, 'Hatty And The Hard Beans!' is also available. Jonathan has recently finished work on a fully-interactive app of, 'The Tiger Who Wasn't!' featuring original games and activites. There are also games he designed for children, free to play on the HattyBooks.com website. You can also see 'The Hatty Rap!' music video which Jonathan wrote and performed and drew the animations for, with music by composer Adonis Aletras.

Review:

'Hatty, the tiger who is 'anything but', sits perfectly in every child's imaginative world, engaging the young reader from the outset. The endearingly gentle allegorical tale encourages wonderful interaction between adult and child...and brilliantly illustrated pictures mean the story is not only a joy to read but is also a delightful feast for the eyes...It is one that will be eagerly re-read by families again and again.' Andrianne Philippou, Book Review, THE CYPRUS WEEKLY --Andrianne Philippou, Book Review, THE CYPRUS WEEKLY

'A most delightful children's story which leads the reader through the jungle by its excellent use of rhyme, rhythm and pace. The wonderful illustrations make the personalities of the characters come alive. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!' --Wendy Hudson, Headteacher, AMERICAN ACADEMY Pre-School, Nicosia

In this charming children's book, Hatty the young vegetarian tiger tries desperately to make friends with the rest of the animals of the jungle. But trying to convince a tiger's traditional food source into becoming a new group of friends turns out to be quite a challenge.
