From the Publisher:

"Life in Tanganyika in the Fifties" is one of the most important books about life in Africa during colonial rule.

It focuses on the decade before Tanganyika's independence and is a primary source of information on how life was then in this East African country. Most of the white settlers who constitute an important part of this study were British since the country was a British colony, although technically under UN trusteeship.

As an authentic record, the work derives its validity from the fact that the author himself, who was born and brought up Tanganyika - renamed Tanzania - got in touch with the former Tanganyikans who lived in different parts of the world and was able to obtain directly from them the information contained in this book about their lives in the fifties in the largest British colony in East Africa. The others were Kenya, Uganda, and Zanzibar. In 1964 Tanganyika united with Zanzibar to form Tanzania.

The book should be of great interest to scholars and members of the general public who want to know about life in Tanganyika and in Africa in general during the colonial era.
