About the Authors
This is the definitive reference for attributing 1878-1921Van Allen-Mallis (VAM) Morgan silver dollar varieties and all their wonders. Authored by Leroy C. Van Allen who is considered the father of Morgan silver dollars with his opus, "The Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Silver Dollars, and edited by noted silver dollar expert, Michael S. Fey, Ph.D., this book has extensive descriptions and photos of the known Morgan dollar die pair varieties that were struck by the U.S. mint. Common varieties as well as rare die varieties worth substantial premiums are listed in this book and easy to attribute. It's quite possible that one of your silver dollars currently worth about $30 in 2025 could be a rare die variety worth thousands of dollars. Fey was elected to the Board of Governors of the 26,000 member American Numismatic Association (ANA) from 2005-2007. He currently services on the ANA Advisory Board. He was the Senior Instructor for the ANA Summer Seminar at the Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO for more than 20 years, served on the ANA Consumer Protection Committee, and loaned rare silver dollars for display in the ANA Museum. He has authored several reference books on Morgan dollars and published a quarterly newsletter for 10 years (A Decade of Top 100 Insights), but is perhaps best known as a co-author with his mentor silver dollar expert, Jeff Oxman, for The Top 100 Morgan Dollar Varieties: The VAM Keys. Fey has received many numismatic awards, has been a speaker at major numismatic national conventions. He has discovered more than 50 new Morgan dollar varieties as well as dozens of new varieties in other U.S. and foreign coin series.
