Robert Ackrill (1816-1894) the proprietor was also a printer and newspaper proprietor who after buying the Harrogate Herald went on to own several other local newspapers in the area. This label lists the terms of borrowing from the library ('time allowed, three days per volume') and advertises that a catalogue was available for one penny. We are located some 20 minutes drive from the M6, Junction 38 and therefore only a 20 mile detour from the main England-Scotland route. Appleby is a town well worth a visit, the coffee pot is always on though refreshment with �a little more authority' can be had if the Crown & Cushion in the town's market square is open!
