About this Item

NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1950. First printing. Hardcover. Good +/fair. 5 3/4 x 8 1/2 in. Black cloth boards with gilt signature on cover, gilt lettering on spine. This is a true first ed, first printing, with the "A" on the copyright pg and the yellow lozenge on the spine. Unfortunately, some bonehead put the DJ in one of those foul early wrappers. Condition of book is GOOD+ ; cellotape on top and bottom, front and rear covers. Front cover very clean, spine faded by water, rear cover stained upper edge by water. No water damage to text. No smell. Binding tight and text very clean with no markings. All pastedowns, the fep, and rfep also have marks from that damned wrapper. DJ condition is FAIR ; not price-clipped ($3.00), colors good, some mild rubbing, closed tear upper spine, water wrinkling to rear. And, of course, that lovely red damnable lining from that obnoxious wrapper, which I've picked away carefully. This was the Hem's last novel and generally regarded as a stinking mess. Appropriate. In new archival Mylar wrapper. Fiction. RGR. 0.0. Bookseller Inventory # 7425
