8vo. (22 cm.) ix, 294p. Illustrated with 12 black and white captioned photos, plus a black and white map as the headpiece of each chapter. Endpapers are maps. Green paper over boards with silver letters and gold decorations on the spine. Front panel of dust jacket has a black and white photo of Jean Bowie Shor and rear panel has a black and white photo of Jean Bowie Shor and Franc Shor. Just hints of wear to extremities, a tine ding on the spine, all photos present and in fine condition, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket slightly shelfworn and lightly soiled. Americans Jean and Franc Shore set out in the mid-twentieth century to retrace the route followed by the seven-century-old trail of Marco Polo from Venice to Perping. Among other adventures, Jean was kidnapped by the Chinese Communists and Franc contracted a deadly fever in the snowbound High Pamirs. Per William O.
