Single volume in the "Natural History of New York" series. Full title upon title page specified as AGRICULTURE OF NEW-YORK: COMPRISING AN ACCOUNT OF THE CLASSIFICATION, COMPOSITION AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE SOILS AND ROCKS, AND THE NATURAL WATERS OF THE DIFFERENT GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS; TOGETHER WITH A CONDENSED VIEW OF THE CLIMATE AND THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIONS OF THE STATE. VOLUME I. which contrasts to exterior spine title provided as "Natural History of New-York, Part V, Agriculture." i-xi, , 1-371 pages. Hardcover; H 29.75cm x L 23.75cm. Original dark brown cloth rubbed, board corners worn, gilt stamped vignettes on spine and front board remain bright as is spine's gilt lettering, mostly closed 3cm deep tear and shallow cloth loss at spine heel, 1cm deep cloth loss across spine head. Large personal bookplate of Henry W. Rogers, Buffalo, NY on front pastedown but with text obscured under swaths of black marker. Light to occasionally moderate foxing to interior leaves with strongest foxing usually at plates and their adjacent pages. Binding shaken between front flyleaf and frontispiece with a few other lesser stress points but otherwise still fairly firm. Pictorial title page has triple imprint "New York - Boston - Albany: D. Appleton & Co and Wiley & Putnam - Gould, Kendall & Lincoln - Carroll & Cook, 1843" whereas as text title page specifies "Albany, NY: printed by C. Van Benthuysen & Co., 1846;" presumably the latter is accurate. Text on pages 361-362 calls for two color maps - a geological map and an agricultural map; the former is lacking but the latter large color foldout map titled "Agricultural Map of New York" is present at book's rear. Correct collation of 21 plates as called for but with unexplained odd inclusion of a Plate XXVI (opposite page 158) which is not cited with the book's concluding section "Explanation of the Plates" on pages 363-367. Plates intentionally bound-in out of their numerically designated order as follows: Plate I (Helderberg Range color foldout) opposite page 153; Plate II opposite page 129; Plate III opp. pg. 8; Plate IV opp. pg. 134; Plate V (Hudson River and Taconic Range color foldout) opp. pg. 7; Plate VI opp. pg. 184; Plate VII (Cattskill [Catskill] Range color foldout) opp. pg. 214; Plate VIII (Schoharie Range color foldout) opp. pg. 166; Plate IX opp. pg. 152; Plate X opp. pg. 158; Plate XI opp. pg. 312; Plate XII opp. pg. 195; Plate XIII opp. pg. 78; Plates XIV-XVIII at rear; Plate XIX as frontispiece; Plates XX-XXI also at rear.
