4to. xvi, 359p. Frontispiece engraving of Algernon Sydney Sullivan with tissue guard plus 24 full-page captioned black and white plates, including several with covering page with descriptive text. Includes speeches of Sullivan (pp. 91-240) and Index. Green cloth with gilt letters on the spine and a wreath in gilt on the front cover with the letter "S" in gilt within it. Top edge gilt, fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. Minor wear to extremities with nothing worn through, some minor smudges on covers, all gilt bright, all illustrations present and in fine condition, tissue guard wrinkled, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Algernon Sydney Sullivan [1826-1887] was a well-known New York lawyer who eventually teamed up with William Nelson Cromwell to form Cromwell and Sullivan, a venerated New York law firm which is still in existence. Sullivan was recognized as one of the ablest and most successful jury lawyers in New York. Anne Middleton Holmes also wrote a biography of Mary Mildred Sullivan, Mrs. Algernon Sullivan.
